A good goal should stretch you, not snap you. It should be out of reach but not out of sight. It's estimated that over 80% of people abandon their new years resolution by the time they hit mid-January.
That means most people's dreams, goals and aspirations only last for two week's!
Why?
The main reason so many fail to achieve the outcome they are looking for is because they understand the principle of goal setting, not goal getting.
Goal getters do more than have a wish, they have a plan that they intend to make a reality. They follow a four step process that gives them clarity, focus, purpose and drive.
They know how to stay on target, even in the face of adversity. And this episoede I'll walk you throught the four step prinicple I follow and teach to my clients to help them create breakthrough results in their businesses and lives.
1. Result - As Stephen Covey told us, start with the end in mind. What is the specific result you are looking to achieve. How much money do you want to earn this year. Clarity of the outcome is the first step in any goals achievement.
2. Action - Once you have clarity of the result you are looking for now it's time to identify what actions will you need to take to arrive at that result. What will you need to focus on and equally important what should you avoid. Making sure your actions are aligned with the achievemnet of your goal is critical.
3. State of Mind - The actions that you take and the results you produce are a direct response to the state of mind you have. As Henry Ford said, "if you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right". There will always be challenges to face and overcome on the way to any significant goals achievement, so the only way to ride those bumps is to have clarity about WHY this is so important to you.
4. Decision - The launch point for any goals achievement is deciding you will make it happen. The reason so many people abandon their goals is because they decide to TRY and achieve their goal. The problem is the word try already has the failure built into it. This is not about what you will try and do, it's about what you will do, must do, are compelled to do.
